Critically endangered plant discovered in the Koeberg Nature Reserve

The beautiful and fragrant Grey Afrikaner (Gladiolus griseus) is one of the rarest Gladiolus species. Historically, they occurred on the Cape West Coast from Milnerton, north towards Saldanha, but after a hundred years of coastal developments the species is now restricted to only three small populations. This fact makes the discovery of a small population of this critically endangered plant in the Koeberg Nature Reserve  even more significant. It is believed that there are less than 250 of these plants left in the wild.

Big Fish School of Digital Film making moves to Cape Town

The Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking has, as of July 2017, relocated all its training from Johannesburg to Cape Town’s Green Point campus. This after the school was established in Johannesburg in 2007. Funded by the European Union (EU), 150 students attending the school have been selected to be a part of a 13-month Citizen Journalist Course, whereby laptops and mobile phones are given to each student to film stories in their communities.

Locally produced films scheduled for Cannes Film Festival 2018 line-up

Over 40 South African delegates are expected to attend the inaugural Cannes Festival Marchè Du Film 2018, kicking off in France today. The Marché du Film is celebrated as the film industry’s biggest annual get-together with a forum of over 12 000 professionals, including 3 200 producers, 1 200 sellers, 1 750 buyers, 1 500 screenings and 800 festival programmers.
