The Darling Trust is set to host a spectacular black tie dinner and auction that will take place at Evita se Perron in Darling on Friday 4 May, starting at 18h30 for 19h00.
Only 100 tickets have been made available for this very exclusive evening at a cost of R950 per person.
The evening will be hosted by Evita Bezuidenhout while the dinner menu is presented by one of South Africa’s most loved celebrity chefs – the Giggling Gourmet herself, Jenny Morris. An auction with once-in-a-lifetime lots will be the highlight of the night and live music by the acclaimed cabaret duo Godfrey Johnson and Nicholas McDiarmid will entertain guests throughout the occasion. Actress and comedian Lizz Meiring will be the event’s MC.
Says trustee and organiser Hentie van der Merwe: “This will be the first in what we hope becomes a bi-annual event, so we are all set to make this the benchmark by which all future auction dinners will be measured.”
“I am super excited to have been invited to oversee the dinner menu,” says Morris, “and I am planning a sumptuous banquet, using all local produce from the area, which will delight and satisfy the guests’ appetites.”
In keeping with the personalities of Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, Jenny Morris and Lizz Meiring, guests can expect some classic South African dishes but with a glamorous and humorous twist. Indeed, Morris is already hard at work conjuring up a recipe for the dessert course which she plans to call ‘Zuma’s Mess’. “Key ingredients will be moist malva pudding, miniature meringues, fresh cream, Darling Sweet’s very own toffee spread and all topped with guava … because he’s just fallen on his,” she says tongue firmly in cheek!
All of this for a very worthy cause of course, with all proceeds going to The Darling Trust; the charitable trust established in 2003 by founding member and current patron, Pieter-Dirk Uys. The Darling Trust aims to assist the previously disadvantaged communities of Darling by empowering individuals to help themselves, mainly through participation in the sectors of education, skills development and health.
Since The Darling Trust came into being it has been a constant presence in the Darling community by facilitating different ongoing projects in aid of the town’s residents such as free weekly music and art lessons for children from the community, the building of a public swimming pool in 2009 and an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre that daily hosts around sixty pre-school Grade R children and an annual talent show at Evita se Perron that is open to all members of the community to showcase their talents.
As diverse as these projects might seem they are all undertaken with a single vision in mind – to create a more equal and inclusive community where there are opportunities and access to healthcare, skills development and jobs for all, irrespective of people’s backgrounds or social circumstances.
Final word goes to Uys: “Guests can expect an evening of fantastic food, music and entertainment in the dazzling company of the most famous white woman in South Africa.
“And it’s no coincidence that it will take place in the Swartland – the only part of South Africa honest enough to call a spade a spade!”
