The Cabinet under Zuma numbered 38, the chopables

Bloated and useless. Will there be a little belt tightening perhaps ? We wait to see the shape of the new Cabinet, will it be materially different to the old ?

Who’s on your ‘top 10 list’ for getting the chop ?

Here’s the best suggestion that is doing the rounds – Thuli Madonsela to replace Shaun the Sheep.

Send us your wish list for the choppables. Realistically, who do you want to see put out to grass, and who put in jail?

Here’s my very amateurish take on the chopability index.

  • Chop-able – Red
  • Keep  – Black
  • Debatable – could be combined with another ministry (e.g. Rural Development and Land Reform merged with Economic Development – and all Education under one minister), or some could just be closed.

Dominos falling

By way of comparison. Here’s a couple of other cabinet numbers around the world, but what do they know about running a country ?

  • Great Britain – 21
  • USA – 15
  • Germany – 21
  • Australia – 22

The lure of the trough.

Pay packets –

  • President – who really knows what’s paid above the table, and what below?
  • Deputy President – R2 825 470  p.a.
  • Minister – R2 401 633  p.a.
  • Deputy Minister – R1 977 795  p.a.
  • State Pension – R18 000 p.a.

And by way of comparison, what are President’s around the world paid (above the table).

Leader Country Salary (US$) Salary (ZAR) at today’s rate
Lee Hsien Loong Singapore $1.7 mill R20 million 19,720,000
Barack Obama United States $400 000 R4.6 million 4,640,000
Malcolm Turnbull Australia $397 800 R4.6 million 4,614,480
Justin Trudeau Canada $252 000 R2.9 million 2,923,200
Angela Merkel Germany $234 400 R2.7 million 2,719,040
David Cameron UK $214 800 R2.5 million 2,491,680
Shinzo Abe Japan $202 700 R2.3 million 2,351,320
Francois Hollande France $194 300 R2.2 million 2,253,880
Jacob Zuma South Africa $188 000 R2.2 million 2,180,800
Vladamir Putin Russia $125 000 R1.5 million 1,450,000
Dilma Rousseff Brazil $120 000 R1.4 million 1,392,000
Pranab Mukherjee India $30 300 R0.4 million 351,480

Quo Vadis BRICS?

Zuma and Rouseff represented 2 of the 5 BRICS countries. Both have been dumped under a cloud of corruption. That’s 40% of them !!!
